News Literacy Project Receives Support from Apple

With the rise of social media, apps such as Facebook and Twitter are becoming the main news sources for teenagers. Misinformation and clickbait, however, make it difficult to know what to believe in an online information ecosystem. The News Literacy Project (NLP) combats this problem by teaching young people to fact check and recognize personal bias in the news they see and share online.

On March 19, Apple announced their support of News Literacy Project, along with two other organizations devoted to media literacy. “News literacy is vital to sustaining a free press and thriving democracy,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. “We are proud to be collaborating with organizations on the front lines of this effort.”

“NLP is committed to equipping the next generation with the critical thinking skills to discern what news and other information to trust and the tools to become informed and engaged participants in our country’s democracy,” said Alan C. Miller, founder and CEO of NLP.
