New Ad Council Campaign Empowers Young Adults to ‘Seize the Awkward’

A humorous take on a serious issue, “Seize the Awkward” is breaking the silence around mental health and suicide among the youth. Ad Council, together with The Jed Foundation (JED), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and Droga5, launched the campaign in an effort to encourage support and create safe spaces for teens and young adults to talk about mental health issues.

With suicide as the second leading cause of death among young adults, the campaign asserts that sparking conversations on mental health today can make all the difference in the long-run.

John MacPhee, Executive Director/CEO of JED, shared his thoughts on the campaign:

“Too many young adults are struggling with mental health issues and not getting the help they need…Seize the Awkward will help empower young people to start important and potentially live-saving conversations and take action to support one another. This generation is poised to lead us in changing the culture around mental health and Seize the Awkward aims to help them do just that.”
